Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh
The Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh is one of the world’s leading Botanic Gardens. Visitors can discover the Garden’s fascinating history dating back over 300 years, learn about its plants and trees and walk around 70 acres of beautiful landscape. A pleasure for all the family, the Garden offers a fantastic view of the capital’s skyline featuring Edinburgh Castle and is located just a mile from the city centre. The Garden’s 10 magnificent Glasshouses have different climatic zones, from steamy tropics to arid desert, and are home to over 3,000 exotic plants from around the world. The Glasshouse visit is paid for admission for adults (£5.50), concession (£4.50) and these prices include a small donation to the Garden. Members and children under 16 go free.
How to find us
The Garden is easily accessible from the City Centre, just one mile north of Princes Street. The John Hope Gateway visitor centre is accessed via the West Gate, Arboretum Place and is served by the Majestic Bus Tour. The Garden’s East Gate is served by local buses 8, 23 and 27 from the city centre. The Garden has metered parking around its periphery, as well as accessible parking at the West Gate, and cycle racks at both entrances.
The Garden has a four star quality tourism award from VisitScotland and was also named ‘Best Visitor Attraction’ and ‘Best Nature Experience’ in 2013.

Discover seasonal highlights, hidden treasures and tales of intrepid adventurers behind the plants on display at the Garden. Guided walks in the Garden take place throughout the spring, summer and autumn seasons (1 Apr to 31 Oct). Tours take place daily at 11:00 and 14:00 from the John Hope Gateway, priced £6 per adult, and last one hour approximately. Winter guided walks take place on selected days at 11:00 and 14:00.
