Scottish Tree Festival – From sapling to giants

As the mist rises over the multi coloured tree fest at Cringletie you can glory in the depth of varieties that make here so special. Following our nature trail, you will come across all the usual suspects as well as some hidden beauties. Other paths take you through a cathedral like covering of foliage and help you appreciate the splendour that trees create. Working with the local primary school the dictionary of the tree types is being created for all to enjoy from the mighty oak, the fruits in the 400 year old walled garden, the scots pine soldier right down to our weeping willow. Meander your way around the 28 acres be sure to find that the trees that will ensure your visit is a long lasting memory – as will be a delicious lunch or afternoon tea in the house.

Scottish Tree Festival – Mount Stuart

Mount Stuart’s 300 acre and 300 year old designed landscape contains a huge variety of trees, both native and globally sourced, which together present a heady mix of exotic, traditional and unusual trees. Amongst the woodland and managed gardens are found Mount Stuart’s proud champion trees - of county, Scotland and UK awards – measured, recognised and awarded their championship status for height, girth, etc. Each one is an arboreal masterpiece, magnificent in form and maturity. From September to December come enjoy autumn’s unfolding colour palette of these wonderful trees in celebration of the season’s richness and diversity.

Everyone knows that fairies live at the bottom of gardens and Archerfield Walled Garden is no different. As the fairies were flying over East Lothian one night they spotted our magical wishing tree. They loved it so much they decided to make it their new home. Drift into a magical mood and take a wander around our woodland Fairy Trail to see if you can find fairy homes hidden in the trees. Collect our Fairy Trail Quiz from the shop then follow the signs down through the gate and around our beautiful woodland. Every fairy home is different; can you find them all?

On the 13th and 14th of Oct Our focus will move to Fruit Trees and how to get the best out of fruit trees in a small garden. Threave Garden is a plantsmans’ paradise and boasts collections of rare champion specimens and successional interest throughout the seasons. From spring, a bank of Narcissus ‘Southern Gem’ to winters diverse RHS Erica trials.
